Terms of Use

In short

SplitSmart is a free tool that keeps track of who paid what. It is not a bank and doesn't move money. Check the amounts before you pay, and be kind to the people in your groups.

1. The service

SplitSmart lets you record shared expenses, split them, scan receipts and see who owes whom. The app is currently free and offered as a beta. Features may change, and the service may occasionally be unavailable.

2. Not a financial service

SplitSmart does not hold, transfer or guarantee money, and is not a bank, payment institution or financial adviser. Payments happen outside the app, through your own bank or payment app. Bank connections are read-only and only suggest expenses, and Apple Pay suggestions and Shortcuts actions ask before they save anything; you decide what is saved.

3. Check the numbers

Receipt scanning, currency conversion and suggestions are automated and can be wrong. You are responsible for checking amounts before saving or paying them. Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank or from the amount you enter. Insights and trip budgets are for your own information only and never change a split.

4. Your account and content

5. Acceptable use

Don't use SplitSmart for anything illegal, to harass people, to upload content you have no right to share, or to attack or overload the service. We may suspend accounts that do.

6. Liability

We build SplitSmart with care, but it is provided as is. To the extent Dutch law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage or for losses caused by incorrect amounts, payments between users or services of third parties such as banks. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

7. Ending

You can stop using SplitSmart and delete your account at any time in the app. We may end the service with reasonable notice in the app.

8. Law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless the law of your country gives you other mandatory rights.
